We are moving ahead to install the siding of our house! The house will look a lot nicer (& more like the rendering) after siding is installed. We are doing open rain screen on many areas of the house. On areas where there is an open rain screen, we will install 2 layers of vapor shields (orange paper + black paper as you will see in the pictures). On areas where there is no open rain screen, only the orange layer vapor shield is needed.
Because of our contemporary design, we are using 3 different types of siding on the house: Cedar wood (with stains/coating), fiber cement boards (olive color) and aluminum panels (white color).

Our 1,700 gallon rain water tank has arrived and finally ready to be installed underground! Below you will see pictures of our tank, tank embedded into our backyard and also after the area has been backfilled.

After a few weeks of hard work, framing is finally complete! Our house framing consists of structural insulated panels (SIPs) for walls and roof, combined with some portion with traditional stick framing.
Siding will start soon and I’m sure the house will look a lot nicer (and more like the original rendering) when siding is complete. Stay tuned for more pictures later!

SIPS walls were put up first before stick frames. We started tilting up the 1st floor panels first, and then fill in the stick framing around the garage and some of the north and south facing walls (where there are many windows and didn’t make sense to use SIPS). The floor joists and floor sheathing came after that. Then the 2nd floor SIPS panels were delivered and installed first before the stick framing for the 2nd floor. All SIPS panels for walls were tilted by hands, with 2-3 people. Not using any cranes until the roof panels come in.

Before pouring the concrete slab, installation of 3″ rigid foam insualtion, 10 mil vapor barrier, 6×6 metal mesh, and hydronic PEX tubing for the radiant heating. Notice the chamfered foam we put at the perimeter of the slabs, because we are using finished concrete floor throughout the 1st floor and we want to hide the foam from being exposed.
